NASCAR - Jimmie Johnson claimed his historic fourth straight Sprint Cup title over teammate Mark Martin. Teammate Jeff Gordon, the only other driver who had a chance at the title, finished third in the standings.The title ties HMS with Richard Petty Enterprises for the most in NASCAR history.

SOCCER - MLS - The image most expected of Beckham and Donovan holding the championship trophy of Major League Soccer for the league's marquee franchise was replaced by anger and frustration. Instead, it was those upstarts from Real Salt Lake celebrating their first title.

HORSE RACING - The highlight of Hollywood Park's fall meeting unquestionably is next weekend's turf festival, featuring five graded stakes races over three days, three of which are Grade 1 races. For many horses, including the brilliant Ventura, it will be their last chance to shine before going to the breeding shed.
