NFL- League may fine Favre for 'crack-back' block. Vikings, Bears, Packers all capable of winning 12 games this season. Eagles, Cowboys, Giants ... is it the Redskins' turn? Not unless they fix that O-line. New York remains the class of the division, though new weapons make Philly a threat.

CFL- Cornerback Pacman Jones, released by the Dallas Cowboys in February, has agreed to a one-year deal with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers of the CFL.

NCAA FootBall- Joe Paterno will start another milestone season where he's spent most of the past six decades: on the Penn State sideline. The Cotton Bowl has extended its TV contract with Fox Sports through 2014, an agreement that puts the 75th anniversary game in prime time after the 2010 season.

NCAA BasketBall- Mark Fox gives Georgia Bulldogs new attitude in first year in Athens. Bernadette McGlade has endured criticism for moving the A-10 office to Virginia. "But it is an easier way of doing business when you compare it to [the cost of doing business in] a large metropolitan city."

TENNIS-Taylor Dent earns first win at U.S. Open since 2005. Murray, Djokovic roll into Open 2nd round. Top-ranked Dinara Safina escapes the opening round with an ugly win. Maria Sharapova posted an impressive 6-3, 6-0 win over Tsvetana Pironkova.
