Scores and Sports Info for 02/02/2010

NFL - The ankle injury to Dwight Freeney, the Colts' star defensive lineman, is the top storyline at the start of Super Bowl week. Colts preparing to play without Freeney. Saints backup Mark Brunell (L) has thrown for 31,928 career yards (and 182 TDs) -- but only 102 yards since '07. In the unlikely (and TV-unfriendly) event of Peyton Manning and Drew Brees going down to injury this Sunday, Don Banks breaks down the QB-battle of Mark Brunell vs. Curtis Painter. Miami downpour alters pre-Super Bowl plans. If stars decide the game, which they usually do, the Colts should win. Only Saints quarterback Drew Brees, who is in the second spot, keeps the Colts from having a sweep of the game's five best players.

NBA - Kobe Bryant got the Los Angeles Lakers' franchise scoring record, but the Memphis Grizzlies spoiled the celebration by defeating the Lakers 95-93. Celtics pull away in 4th, snap skid at 3. Afflalo's jumper lifts Nuggets in OT. Jazz use big 4th to push win streak to 6. Suns hold off Paul-less Hornets,Aldridge leads Blazers past Bobcats.

NCAA Hoop's - Kansas returns to No. 1 spot. Hamilton's 27 get Texas by Oklahoma St. Kentucky's Cousins growing up quickly. Florida State F DeMercy leaves team. Michigan St.'s Summers seeks consistency. Utah's Henderson suspended 1 game. Louisville defeats reeling Connecticut.

NHL - Sidney Crosby scored a hat trick in about eight minutes – much to goalie Ryan Miller's chagrin – as the Penguins beat the Sabres 5-4. Rangers acquire
Jokinen from Flames. Oilers end 13-game skid, beat Hurricanes. Ducks' Hiller beats Panthers 3-0. Richards, Emery lead Flyers over Flames. Caps win 10th
straight, tie team record. Crosby leads Penguins past Red Wings 2-1. The Bruins aren't out of the playoff hunt yet, but that's only because they play in the East. It's a shocking turn from last year's 116-point performance

MLB - With the Angels vulnerable, the Rangers are positioned to reach the playoffs for the first time in 11 years. They've had 12 consecutive losing seasons
and lost 98 games in 2009, yet the Orioles have a plan in place to return to respectability -- and maybe the playoffs.

NCAA FOOTBALL - Star Search- The countdown to signing day has begun. With five-star recruits like Seantrel Henderson up for grabs, every minute matters.
BCS: Prepare for your worst nightmare. Fans: Prepare for a playoff. It sounds like the government is really getting involved, which means the BCS has to change. Forcing BCS change could give President Barack Obama the kind of politically popular win he desperately needs.

GOLF - McCarron: I never called Mickelson a 'cheater'. Crane claims Torrey; Lefty not factor. Harig Daly playing Pebble Beach despite quitting talk. Karlsson ends 16-month skid at Qatar. Gates takes New Zealand Open in N'wide debut.

NASCAR - He's polarizing in every way – with fans, results and expectations. Which Kyle Busch will show up in 2010 is anyone's guess.

SOCCER - MLS - The players union must continue to be willing to give some ground to prevent a work stoppage that could leave fans in the cold. Steve Ralston signs with AC St. Louis. Castro, Shuttleworth re-sign with the Revs. Jaime Moreno re-signs with DC United.
