Scores and Sports Info for 03/24/2010

NCAA HOOP's - MARCH MADNESS - NIT: Thompson takes lead as UNC reaches semis.NIT: Ole Miss knocks off Texas Tech in double OT. Could Butler, Kansas State or Xavier send Syracuse packing? Not likely. With Wes Johnson and Andy Rautins carrying the load, the Orange appear destined for Indy.

NBA - David Lee's double-double ways continued in a win over Denver. But does he fit in New York's plans? Kidd keys spurt to win on 37th birthday. Gallinari rallies Knicks by Nuggets. Bobcats post club-record 36th victory. Karl out until playoffs? Nuggets coach George Karl was recently treated for blood clots.

NHL - All good things come to an end. And so has the Coyotes' nine-game winning streak. Chicago takes care of that with a 2-0 victory and also moves atop the West with 99 points. The Bruins shut out the Thrashers 4-0 on Tuesday, keeping the two teams on opposite sides of the playoff line. While the Capitals remain atop A weekly Power Rankings, the gritty veteran Red Wings have gotten healthy and climbed six spots, to right behind those dangerous Coyotes. NHL closer to new rule on head shots.

MLB - The Yankees added key players, yet their foundation continues to rest with older veterans such as Mariano Rivera and Derek Jeter. Johnny Damon and Austin Jackson are both new to Detroit, but they're familiar with each another and hope to be a spark atop the Tigers' lineup. With a new ballpark and Joe Mauer's extension done, the mid-market Twins can become a major power. The Rockies appear to have it all -- depth, youth, talent and a modest payroll.

NFL - Landing Dunta Robinson gives Atlanta a big checkmark on its to-do list. The corner fix frees GM Thomas Dimitroff to draft elsewhere and further deepen the promising team he's building. Swayed by statistics and Roger Goodell's enthusiasm, the NFL owners Tuesday overwhelmingly approved a modified
sudden death overtime proposal for the playoffs. While the NFL owners meet this week in Orlando, the NFLPA met last week in Hawaii. Prepare for battle: Roger Goodell and DeMaurice Smith hope to avoid the NFL's first work stoppage in 24 years.

NCAA FOOTBALL - The Facts Of Life-Life without C.J. Spiller begins for Clemson this spring. How do the Tigers replace their do-everything playmaker? They
don't -- at least not with one player. Steve Spurrier won the first five SEC East titles while at Florida, but has yet to win the division with South Carolina. Now healthy, Ricky Stanzi has the skill around him to improve Iowa's offense. But other areas need spring attention. Cody Green will get his shot with the first-team Nebraska offense this spring. Marve-lous spring? Purdue hopes Miami transfer Robert Marve proves to be the answer at quarterback. Strong start-Charlie Strong begins his quest to rebuild Louisville with spring practice. Texas A&M's offense is good with Jerrod Johnson, but the 'D' needs work this spring.

NASCAR - Going It Alone- Conventional wisdom this season had Penske Racing struggling as the only Dodge team. Roger Penske -- and drivers such as Brad
Keselowski -- are doing fine. Jimmie Johnson has single-handedly managed to frustrate his competition and the bulk of NASCAR nation.

GOLF - Retief Goosen's four top-six finishes in just six events is good enough to vault him into the power rankings for the first time this year. Do you want fries with that? Michelle Wie's sponsorship deal with McDonald's is the first for a golfer with the chain since the '90s. Arnold Palmer Invitational-Jim Furyk hits Bay Hill looking for another tournament title following his Transitions victory.

MMA & BOXING - Jon Jones got all the hype coming out of Sunday's UFC event, but Junior dos Santos also proved he is a legitimate threat. A parade of aging fighters, including Roy Jones Jr., will soon step into the ring. But they shouldn't be allowed to do so??

SOCCER - MLS - Philly has done a commendable job of building around the Sons of Ben. It's one MLS expansion lesson learned from Seattle. MLS looks to add stars following labor deal. Garber criticizes DC for lack of socceR!

TENNIS - Venus locks in-While Venus Williams is busy with writing a book, her left-handed serve and an ownership stake in the Miami Dolphins, this week she's zeroed in on tennis. Cirstea wins at Sony, gets Venus next. Busy Venus bids for Key Biscayne title.

HORSE RACING - Missing in action-Zenyattawill still be there on April 9, but the Apple Blossom Handicap lost its luster once 2009 Eclipse winner Rachel
Alexandra withdrew from the race. Tuscan Evening wins Santa Ana on Santa Anita turf. Hour Glass wins Wheel Turns Stakes at Aqueduct.
